Happy 4th of July!!!

Summer is here in full swing and my apologizes for not blogging sooner. It's been a busy June. I did some trainings in mid June working with joint mobility in the neck, back and hips and the end of June went to Chicago to brush up on Lomi Lomi. I'm so excited!! Both modalities offer so much to the client on structural and spiritual levels.

The myofascial work done in mid June was taught by Erik Dalton who created many different ways to increase joint mobility to help with things like neck cricks, frozen shoulders, low back and leg pain. All techniques were very useful and the feedback thus far has been wonderful.

The Lomi Lomi training was very similar to what I learned 4 years ago, but with one big difference...it was in Chicago versus Hawaii. Not knowing if the same energy would be produced, I'm so happy to say the spirit of aloha was alive and well in Chicago too. I was so moved by the bodywork that I am going to a more advanced training in October. I'm realizing that Lomi Lomi is a true passion and one that shapes who I am as a person and how I work with each and every one of you. If you haven't had the opportunity to experience a Lomi Lomi yet, please take the time to do so. I had forgotten some of the strokes and was able to reconnect with them on a deeper level and would love the chance to share that spirit of aloha with you.

Here's what's available for next couple of months, so you can plan your summer bodywork session accordingly:

Time to think spring!!!

With winter winding down, it's time to THINK SPRING!!! I am so excited to have spring arrive.

Be sure to watch your step with the melting and re-freezing going on! If you happen to fall, be sure to ice the injured area and elavate it as best you can. Once the swelling has gone down, if you need a little help stretching out the muscles, please call me to set up an appointment.

You can call to set up an appointment WITHOUT any injuries too, of course!

Please forward the blog to people if they are interested in bodywork sessions. That way, they can check me out to make sure they feel comfortable.

For those of you that have passed along referrals...thank you so much! I'm creating a successful business because of YOU!!! It means the world to me that you would entrust me with your friends and loved ones.

I am so grateful for all of your support during the tough economic times. As you all know, I don't take anything for granted, most especially you! And you can bet you'll get your money's worth!

February is all booked up, but there are still some time slots in March. Keep an eye out in the upcoming weeks for available dates and times. If you KNOW you'd like an appoinment, email me at balancethroughbodywork@gmail.com, or call at 612.670.9093.

Be well!

More helpful hints for a healthy 2009!!

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekends and had a safe holiday. I wanted to offer some tips to keep you healthy this year!!!

*Drink warm water instead of cold to warm you from the inside out.
*Wear a scarf around your neck and under your coat to keep the cold air from "invading" your defensive Qi. Wearing a scarf can protect you from getting a winter cold.
*Stretch out after you have shoveled the driveway or sidewalk. This will keep your back limber and prevent you from getting stiff.

Just a few thoughts on how you can take care of yourself all year.

I still have some time slots avaiable toward the end of January. I am also working on Martin Luther King day, the 19th, if you prefer a day appointment. Call me at 612.670.9093 or email at balancethroughbodywork@gmail.com to schedule your appointment.

Hoping you are well.

Helpful hints to get you through the winter!!

Good Evening! I'm hoping you are all safe and warm on this cold winter day.

I just wanted to share some ideas about taking care of your body this winter. With the snow falling outside, it's important to remember proper body mechanics when you pick up the shovel!

Keep in mind to turn your entire body, feet and all, in the direction you are throwing the snow vs turning at your midsection. This will save your lower back, especially if the snow is heavy. Be sure to stretch when you finish. It may not be a "gym" workout, but it's still a workout!! Stretching right away when you are done will also help alleviate back pain.

Some suggested stretches:

-Cat stretch: be on the floor on all fours and pull your belly button toward your spine to round your back.
-Child's pose: A great yoga position to stretch the lower back. Kneel on the floor, push your backside to your heels and bend at the waist. For an added stretch: put your arms overhead to get the stretch through the midback and shoulders.
-Sit and reach: Sit on the ground with your legs in front of you, outstretched. Bend at the waist to try to reach your toes. Don't bounce, just reach as far as you can until you feel the stretch.

Hold each stretch for 30 seconds to a minute, relax and try to stretch a little bit further the next time.
If at any time you feel pain, stop right away!!! Feel free to email me at balancethroughbodywork@gmail.com if you have further questions about the stretches or you'd like other suggestions.

Hoping you are well.
